Reduce the Polygon Count of a 3D Model

Heavy scans and CAD exports slow down web pages and games. VIZON shows the triangle count and decimates meshes to 50% or 20% in one step.

What you can do

Count triangles

The preview above and the scene panel in the editor both show the triangle count, so you know where you start.

Decimate to 50%

Halves the triangles while keeping the overall shape, a good first step for most models.

Decimate to 20%

A much lighter mesh for backgrounds, mobile games and quick previews.

Per object

Reduce only the heavy parts and keep detail where it matters.

Remove what you do not need

Delete hidden or internal parts, often the quickest saving of all.

Export a lighter GLB

Download the result as GLB for web viewers, AR and game engines.

How to reduce the polygon count of a model

Want more detail? Read the guide: How to Reduce Polygon Count Without Ruining a Model.

  1. Drop the file above to see its triangle count.
  2. Upload it to VIZON and open it in the 3D Model Creator.
  3. Select the heavy object and choose Mesh, Reduce to 50%.
  4. Repeat, or use Reduce to 20%, until it is light enough.
  5. Download the lighter model as GLB.

Frequently asked questions

Will decimation change the look of my model?

Large flat areas lose triangles first and look the same. Small curved details soften as you reduce further, so check after each step.

How many triangles should a web model have?

It depends on the device, but a few tens of thousands of triangles per object keeps most web pages smooth on phones.

Is decimation reversible?

Ctrl+Z undoes it in the session. Keep a copy of the original file for later.
