The GLB File Format

GLB is the single-file, binary form of glTF 2.0: meshes, materials, textures and animations packed into one file that loads fast on the web.

.glbGLB (binary glTF 2.0)

What is a GLB file?

A GLB holds a scene: a hierarchy of nodes with meshes, physically based (PBR) materials, embedded textures, skeletons and animation clips. Units are metres and Y is up.

Because everything is in one binary file, GLB is easy to upload, share and load in browsers, AR viewers and game engines.

When to use GLB

Good for

  • 3D on websites and in AR
  • Game and real-time assets
  • Sharing a textured, animated model as one file

Not ideal for

  • Exact engineering geometry (use STEP)

GLB file questions

What is the difference between GLB and glTF?

They are the same format. glTF is JSON with separate binary and texture files; GLB packs everything into one binary file.

How do I edit a GLB file online?

Upload it to VIZON and open it in the 3D Model Creator, then download the edited GLB.

Can a GLB file contain animation?

Yes. GLB supports skeletal, transform and morph animations. VIZON plays them and can export new ones.

Open your GLB file in VIZON

Upload it to your library and open it in the browser, on any computer.
